“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.  Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there  rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy bother, and then come and offer thy gift.  Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.  Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou has paid the uttermost farthing.”  (Matt 5:21-26) 

Man looks at that which is physically visible and views one a “sinner” when he’s able to see with the “natural eye” the outward effects of disobedience.  However, the Lord sees the heart.  Oftentimes believers look upon the drug addict; the prostitute; the murderer; the liar; the thief; the slanderer; the adulterer; the homosexual; the unwed mother; and the like and points his finger at such declaring “aha, there goes one who’s bound by sin, who’s headed for eternal damnation, there goes one who needs repentance!”  But, while they are pointing and examining another, The Lord Himself is examining them.  And having seen them inwardly, have found that many have secretly hidden within, “The Silent Spiritual Killer!”  Here is a sin so deadly it will eat away at the very heart of man, and like cancer spread itself to it’s members attacking the spirit of man and causing the heart to turn from that which was once flesh, to stone!  Oddly, these believers feel confident this sin will not be exposed, that it will remain hidden and they go to great lengths in attempting to do so.  In the presence of others they give off the illusion as being righteous, Godly, full of the Light of the Lord, loving and kind while inwardly, “The Silent Spiritual Killer” is at work and while it appears to be tucked away from the natural seeing eye, NOTHING is hidden from THE LORD! 

This “silent sin” that does so much damage to the spirit of man has a name.  It manifests itself in the form of “Anger” and if not released IMMEDIATELY, it will welcome other spirits to join in namely bitterness, resentment, hatred, rage and unforgiveness, who would eagerly take up residence in the heart of the one who opened the door, and begin it’s spiritual torment.  We all get or have gotten angry over something or someone at one time or another, however there are those who take that anger a step further in allowing it to fester within their hearts and grow like a cancerous sore.  They remain focused on who caused them pain and the circumstances surrounding it and harbor in their hearts anger towards the individual(s) to the point of wishing the one who caused them pain, pain in his/her own life.  Your neighbor, brother, sister, mother, father, husband, wife, fellow worshiper….the one you once called friend, you now hold anger in your heart for them.  Refusing to forgive, refusing to communicate, refusing to walk in the Light of the Love of Christ Jesus! 

It is ironic that in the beginning of these passages of scripture, the Lord first begin speaking on the commandment “thou shalt not kill”, and then moves on to speak concerning a brother who has anger in his heart over another as if the two “a murderer” and “one who harbors bitterness” are one in the same.  As if the two sins are no different one from the other.  In truth, they are NOT!  In The Lord’s eyes, they are not as both are equally damaging, one to the body and the other to the soul.  For while one kills the physical body, another kills the soul and both sins are in danger of judgment!   It is The Lord’s will and desire that one who’s angry with his/her brother be forgiving of the sins committed against them, and IMMEDIATELY be reconciled to his/her brother or sister before the anger settles and begin to house itself in the heart of the believer! 

How is it that one can ask ANYTHING of the Lord while holding in his/her heart bitterness towards another.  Do you realize the prayers you’ve prayed will receive NO answer until you FIRST repent of the anger, forgive the one who’ve caused you pain, and be reconciled to him/her in LOVE?  Neither will your sins of which you’ve committed be forgiven by our Father.  For the word of God declares: “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:  But if ye forgive NOT men their trespasses, NEITHER will your Father forgive YOUR trespasses.” (Matt 6:14-15)  You may say that it’s very difficult to forgive for the pain that was caused to you was most horrific, the words said most unkind and unloving, the slander, the gossip, the utter betrayal and these things may be true.  But, consider this:  we have ALL sinned and fallen short of God’s Glory and Christ carried the weight of the sins of the whole world.  This INCLUDES every sin you yourself have committed.  So think over your life, has there not been a time when you’ve caused hurt and pain to someone else be it through your speech, or a form of betrayal?  Has there not been a time when you’ve engaged in idol gossip and slander that has hurt another brother or sister?  Has there not been a time when you’ve spoken a harsh and ugly word that crushed the heart of another?  Has there not been a time when you even were angry with God because of your life and the circumstances surrounding that you refused to pray, refused to share with Him your heart, refused to accept HIS perfect will?  Has there not been a time when you surrendered to the flesh and committed sinful acts against The Lord?   Did he at any time turn away from you, refusing to receive you, refusing to accept your apology, refusing to love you despite your shortcomings?   Or…..Did he not FREELY FORGIVE?  Did he not LOVE YOU with an everlasting love DESPITE the pain you caused him and how you broke his heart.  YOUR SINS, MY SINS, the SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD were SO GREAT that it took the DEATH of a SINLESS GOD to bring us reconciliation, and yet to bring upon reconciliation with a brother or sister who may have caused you harm, ALL that it would take would be to simply forgive and yet you are unwilling and would rather remain bitter.  What would have happened to you if Christ had chosen to be unwilling and singled you out declaring your sins were to great to receive forgiveness, that they hurt him too much to forgive and forget?  Where spiritually would you be?  Is it so difficult to love my friend?  Is it so difficult to let your heart be at peace?  If Christ is so willing to forgive, why are you not able?  For the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, ALSO is available to YOU and all you must do is surrender to His leading.  Don’t allow the sin of anger and unforgiveness to eat away the very soul Christ died to save!   

Every man/woman examine your hearts and let NOT in it be found, “The Silent Spiritual Killer.” Rebuke the spirit of anger, rebuke the spirit of rage and bitterness, rebuke the spirit of hatred and unforgiveness, LOVE and be at PEACE with one another thus fulfilling the prayer of the Lord, “Father, I pray they may be ONE even as YOU and I are ONE!  Let the Light of Love SHINE and cast anger back into outer darkness!
