SERVING ONE ANOTHER

“Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshiping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.  And he said unto her, What wilt thou?  She saith unto him, grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.  But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask.  Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?  They say unto him, we are able.  And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.  And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.  But it shall not be so among you:  but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:  Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.  (Matt 20:20-28)

“And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?  But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.  And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be the first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.”  (Mark 9:33-35)

“Serving One Another” is the foundation of greatness!  To place one’s needs above your own is truly possessing the heart and mind of Christ.  For the heart of Christ is consumed with mercy, compassion, and love and ALL who profess to be his, should be LIKE him.  Yet there are many among the brethren who desire more to be served rather than to serve.  Who believe greatness is accomplished by one’s status, great name, the company they keep, or spiritual gifts.  However, greatness is not achieved through ones position, title, name, possessions and the like, according to Christ greatness is achieved through service.

If any man desires to be great, let him look towards The Lord Jesus for he taught the greatest lessons on greatness not but words only, but through demonstration.  Throughout the scriptures we see The Son of God taking upon the role of a servant.  As King of kings and Lord of lords, he yet did not demand to be served by his disciples and the multitudes, but rather sought out those who needed service and having great compassion on them, cared for their needs.  He did not seek the praise of men, nor did he keep company with those of position and wealth in order to be seen, but rather ate and drank with men who would be considered by most as being “common folk”.  When the multitudes would throng him, pressing in to get a glimpse of him, he did not become puffed up over his “popularity” but rather having mercy upon them, he ministered to their needs.  He compassionately fed the hungry; was comforting to the broken hearted; brought good news to the poor; became a friend to the friendless; forgiving; loyal; loving; giving; tenderhearted; merciful; easily moved by compassion; He was and IS INDEED the example of GREATNESS. At one point in the scriptures noted in the book of John chapter 13, our blessed Savior removes his clothing, wraps a towel about himself and begin washing the disciples feet.  This was a common task assigned to slaves who would wash the feet of guests, and yet Jesus took upon this role in the presence of his disciples.  They should have been washing his feet, yet he demonstrated his greatest through serving them.  Using himself as an example, he illustrated greatness in serving and declared to them saying: “If I then, YOUR LORD and MASTER, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”  Thus The Lord is saying to his disciples if He being KING and LORD can wash their feet, they who are not above him should have no problem washing one another’s feet.  Again I say, if any man seeks greatness let him look towards The Lord Jesus and imitate Him.  For He demonstrated the power of greatness through “Serving One Another.”

This is the lesson the church NEEDS to learn and practice this day.  We MUST get into the habit of loving and caring for one another.  Be as the Lord and begin “Serving One Another” with tender love, mercy and compassion.  We are of the SAME body the SAME family, and when a brother or sister is in need we MUST minister to that need as the Lord has given us the necessary means to do so!  Be not as the world, selfish, prideful, and stepping on one another to obtain a position the world may consider great.  Do you wish to be great in the sight of the Lord, or in the sight of man?   If you are truly serving the Lord Jesus, than you would seek those things that are pleasing to him, not man.  Those in leadership MUST end the foolishness of competition amongst yourselves and stop comparing yourselves to one another.  Who has preached the best sermon, who has the largest congregation, who has the best guest speakers, who has the greatest building, ALL this is irrelevant to a lost soul and NONE of this places you in a position of greatness in the sight of The Lord.  Stop praying for a “larger ministry” that you may be seen by man, and begin diligently SERVING those whom the Lord has already entrusted you with.  Whether it be ONE individual or ONE MILLION, the number is unimportant.   What is important is your level of service.   Once you genuinely begin to do so, the Lord will then add as many as HE choose that you may become greater in your SERVING!  Not great by name, not great by position, not great by title, not great by wealth, but GREAT THROUGH SERVING!  The word of God says to humble yourselves that you may be exalted. To successfully serve one must take the focus off himself and place another’s need above his. He must be willing to follow the example of our Lord. There is great power and blessings in serving, great joy in giving of oneself to another in need.  The greatest reward is to see the JOY of another through your act of serving them.

Let us begin this day “Serving One Another” as our Lord taught us.  SEEK to bless and YOU will receive the blessing.

I Love you all so very much.  Have a blessed week in the Lord and remember:  Whatever we do, do ALL for the GLORY of GOD, who ALONE is worthy of the GLORY and the PRAISE!

The Lord be with you this day and always!  Shalom Uvracha (Peace and Blessings)……..
