This Weeks Message- (scripture taken from King James Version) MARY AND MARTHA Now
it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman
named Martha received him into her house. And
she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and HEARD HIS WORD. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and
came to him and said, LORD, doest thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve
alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that
good part, which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:38-42) Mary
and Martha were the sisters of Lazarus whom Yeshua (Jesus) raised from the dead, and
were friends of Jesus who often ministered to the needs of he and his disciples in the
form of food and lodging. Both were Godly
women, and devout followers of the Lord who loved Him, but while one was blessed by his
company, the other HUNGERED for his PRESENCE. While
one was satisfied with one lesson taught by Him, the other THIRST for more understanding. In the end, it was the one who HUNGERED THE MOST
that FOLLOWED Him even to the cross where there she wept at His feet. Here
in these passages of scripture, it tells the story of a most important invited guest and
the behavior of those who received him into their home.
Jesus, was the guest of honor at the home of Mary and Martha. Martha was most excited to have him there in her
home, so much so that her focus became centered around the events of the evening in
preparing, serving, organizing everything to its perfection. Mary was also most excited to receive her guest,
but her excitement was centered around yet another opportunity to sit at the guest of
honors feet, and HEAR HIS WORDS which would ultimately feed her spirit. Mary was so desirous to hear the words of The Lord
that she was unconcerned about the situation around her.
It wasnt that she didnt want to assist her sister in the
preparing of the meal, but for her it was that she found to sit and hear the words of The
Lord MORE important than busying herself about in the handling of one task after the
other. She was indeed hungry, but NOT for food
for the stomach, the food she desired ONLY the Lord could supply and He being ready to
serve, she was not about to lose her place at his feet, so there she sat. While her sister Martha went scurrying about with
the arranging of this and that in an effort to prepare and serve the perfect
meal making a good impression, Mary was already being FED the PERFECT meal
through His words. Noting her sisters
lack of effort to assist her, as to her it appeared Mary was simply lounging about, Martha
approaches the Lord and asks the Lord to insist Mary arise from her lounging spot
and help her prepare and serve the meal. But,
the Lord replied in quite a different manner than what Martha had expected. Rather than turn to Mary and demand she get up and
help in the preparations, the lord turns his attention instead to Martha and declares: Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled
about many things: But ONE THING IS NEEDFUL: and Mary hath CHOSEN that good
part, which shall NOT be taken away from her. Mary
had found the ONE thing needful for her SPIRITUALLY
The WORDS of THE LORD. Martha was too occupied with the flesh to consider
the spirit, but Mary could only see the HUNGER OF HER SPIRIT, to even consider the flesh. Thus she fixed her eyes upon the ONLY one who could
fill this hunger, and opened her ears to HIS WORDS which would be her MEAT. And, in doing so The Lord would not prevent her
from being fed. The one thing that was needful
was IN HIM, not in the preparation of foods for the stomach, and Mary had found that
NEEDFUL thing. We
need MORE like Mary in the Body of Christ today. Within
the church, we have too many Marthas whose focus is more on programs, church
functions, activities and such and LESS on simply being silent for but a moment, sit at
the foot of Yeshua and HEAR HIS WORDS. Like
Martha, in her efforts to prepare the perfect meal, and be the perfect hostess for the
PERFECT GUEST OF HONOR, there are to many in the church today whove place TOO much
emphasis on obtaining the perfect house of worship where everything OUTWARDLY
has to appear perfect, while inwardly theres still MUCH WORK that needs to be done. Like Martha, too many are focused on their
surroundings seeking to perfect IT and in doing so have somehow bypassed the GUEST OF
HONOR! The message is not found in
entertainment, but in HIS WORDS but one must be as Mary in order to HEAR, be FED, and
DIGEST IT WELL! We must come out of the
kitchen of preparing, and go to where the FOOD has already been PREPARED if we desire
MEAT. However, ONLY a DRIVEN HUNGER will get
you to the place where Mary once sat, AT THE FEET OF JESUS TO HEAR HIS WORDS. MARY
and MARTHA
.. HUNGER or ALREADY SATISFIED
. YOU
CHOOSE! If
youre hungry, HE WILL FEED YOU. If you
believe youre already full, youve never TRULY been fed! I
Love you all so very much. Have a blessed week
in the Lord and remember: Whatever we do, do ALL
for the GLORY of GOD, who ALONE is worthy of the GLORY and the PRAISE! The Lord be
with you this day and always! Shalom Uvracha
(Peace and Blessings) Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh,
